Uh hi Disney... This is reality calling, I'm here to smack you in the face.

Picture this: A sheltered child that is locked inside her entire life. (Just work with me here okay). The only movies this child is allowed to watch her whole life are Disney movies. What would this child think of society today? It would be a pretty great picture right? The world would be a beautiful, non violent place, where everyone has wonderfully proportioned bodies and gorgeous faces and long, flowing, silky hair. Everyone is kind, except for the villain, but in the end the villain is always caught in the end so its no big deal. Here are reasons why this child would be scarred for life if she were to walk out in public for just a day. (And she probably would not even last that long.)

1) In Disney movies, everyone is beautiful and skinny- UM HELLO! Not in real life. Look at all the Disney princesses. Are any of them curvy? NO. (well if you count have an abnormally small waist that looks disproportionate to the rest of your body making it look big then yes.) Disney should make a normal weighted princess instead of always making them stick thin. I am not stick thin, so therefore it is hard for me to relate to Disney princesses. And I'm not a princess so that makes it difficult as well.

Okay okay, I know beauty is different to everyone. But even if one person is pretty to you and not to me, there will be another person who is pretty to me and not to you. What I am saying is, not everyone is as gorgeous as a Disney princess. AND DEFINITELY no one is as beautiful as the Disney prince charmings, so (imaginary, fictitious, just-to-help-get-my-point-across) kid, you will have another thing coming if you think that you are gonna find a guy as handsome as, say Prince Eric or even Flynn Rider.... sigh.

2) Villains are always caught in Disney movies... Unfortunately in real life, the villains are not always caught. In real life, some villains, a.k.a. criminals, actually try to hide their bad deeds instead of singing songs about them to the main character. So if this kid were to go out and see a crime, what would she do? Probably go sing a song about how bad the person was, only to get shot in the leg or something tragic like that. Granted some criminals do get caught, BUT a lot of them don't. SO don't get your hopes up.

3) In Disney movies, everyone sings beautifully. Which actually is true in real life as well! Everyone who opens their mouth to sing has a heavenly, angelic sound that flows out of them like a waterfall. It is so wonderful I just want people to sing to me all the time...... SO ANYWAYS enough with the jokes. There are only a few people on this planet that God has gifted with a beautiful singing voice, me being one of them of course (ummm.), so if life really were a musical I'm pretty sure that people would either wear earplugs 24/7 or cut their ears off. Believe me, I do community theatre.

In conclusion, IF a child were to watch Disney movies their whole life, they would be in for one heck of a shock when they entered the real world. So either Disney needs to make a movie where a chunky princess who can't sing drives around an old battered up van in a rainy, dreary city where everyone is mean and calls her fat and ugly and then the villain steals her identity and car and house and all her personal belongings and then gets aways with it, or children need to understand that Disney is just fiction.

Help a great cause... (and get an adorable shirt!)

6 years ago my grandmother, Shirley Daugherty, died of breast cancer. It devastated me because we were extremely close. To have a terrible disease come and rip her out of my life was tragic. Ever since then I have been trying to do whatever I can to help other people in her situation, whether it be by donating money to the cause or offering my services at places that can help people like her. One of those places is called the Hope Lodge in Lexington, Kentucky. They offer food and lodging to people coming to hospitals around the area for cancer treatments. I have served food there with my youth group and witnessed first hand the joy that it brings to the people there! It touches me every time that I go there because it makes me realize that life is not a bed of roses. People have issues always, whether it be small ones or huge ones like having cancer. With my Happiness by Hannah shirts that I design, I want to help the Hope Lodge help people there. Right now they are at full capacity and having to turn people away. If we can raise enough money they might have enough to expand and offer their services to more people! I designed a special shirt just for the month of October, because it is Breast Cancer Awareness month! For every one of these shirts that I sell I will donate $10 to the Hope Lodge of Lexington. I attached a picture of the order form, the shirt and also a link the the Hope Lodge's website. You can pick the shirt up at Paisley Polkadot in Lexington, or if you are out of town we can ship it to you! Please help!! Thank you for your support!

Yoga pants.... Really?

If I had a nickel for everytime I was out in public and saw a lady wearing yoga pants, I would be rich. My house would be overflowing with shiny new nickels until I would have enough nickels to buy another house to store my new nickels in. The question is... Why are they wearing them?

My little brother goes to a private school, so naturally there are a few well to do people who send their kids to school there. There are also normal people who send their children there as well, but mostly rich or I-have-more-money-than-you-so-I-am-rich-to-you-but-not-to-a-rich-person type people who send their kids to his school. The one thing that both these categories of mothers have in common is that they ALL wear stretchy pants. And when I say all I really mean ALL. It is sort of ridiculous. They all have their t-shirts, baseball caps, and yoga pants on. If you were to see them just in the morning you might think, "Oh! They are dropping their kids off at school and then going to work out!".... WRONG. They stay in the same pair of yoga pants all day long, so obviously they did not go and work out. Not unless they worked out all day long and did not sweat at all and then came and picked their kids up looking the exact same as they did that morning. I just do not understand it! Don't get me wrong, yoga pants are comfortable but just to wear around the house. I work out everyday and I would NEVER feel comfortable wearing them outside of my house unless I had a toga on overtop of them or something to cover my butt. When you wear yoga pants you get panty lines. Panty lines make most people very uncomfortable, including myself. I guess that some people just have the illusion that stretchy pants are flattering. Well, you should throw that illusion out the window because they really aren't unless you weigh 90 pounds or something. Whatever happened to women looking like women? Now a days I can barely distinguish a man from a women and the only thing that helps is the tightness of the clothes!! Ladies- If you don't already, you should really consider dressing nicely. That means no yoga pants (unless you are going to a yoga class or to the gym), no t-shirts, NO BASEBALL CAPS (they hide your hair! If you have to wear a hat at least invest in a cute fedora), and no skank clothing at all (this category includes super tight clothing that is not flattering to anyone, shorts that reveal your butt cheeks, shirts that not only reveal cleavage but CLEAVAGE, and anything that screams DON'T WEAR ME when you look at yourself in the mirror.) The dressing nicely category includes but is not limited to: Dresses, Skirts, Cute tops, Jeans that do not make your legs look like they were attached to the wrong barbie doll, Anything high waisted (normally your waist is smaller than your hips and breasts so clothing items that accentuate this area are extremely flattering), Boots, Cute flats that aren't tennis shoes, Heels, and CUTE HATS!

P.S. Please remember: I am just here to help! If you would rather go out looking slobbish and unnatractive, have at it! It really makes no difference to me... actually it would give me more nickels.

Top 3 Reasons why Spanish is useful in America.

I am sitting doing my Spanish homework... actually drudging through my Spanish homework, when I ask myself, "Why is Spanish useful?" Here are the top 3 reasons why.

1) Look around and what do you see? ANSWER: Loads of immigrants... I mean LOADS. They are everywhere!! Not just Spanish, but British, Chinese, Japanese, Hawaiian... oh wait. In a few years you will need 15 languages in your arsenal just to buy a gallon of milk at the store! Although Chinese would be more helpful in a few years than Spanish I do believe...

2) Mexican restaurants. It would be nicer to walk in speaking fluent Spanish than english I guess. And easier to order that wonderful, wonderful food we know as mexican.... now I want a burrito. 0_0

3) Do you see some Spanish/Mexican/Latino people glancing at you while speaking rapid spanish. You think they are talking about you, but what are they saying??? Why must they taunt you in their bilingual way???? Will you ever know what they are talking about? YES! Next time you are out and about and find yourself in an awkward situation such as the one previously described you can actually understand what they are saying about you. If it is good you can say, "gracias senors y senoritas". If it is bad you can say... "Tu madre es gordo"

So there you have it! The top 3 reasons why Spanish is useful in America today! Seriously though you should consider learning Spanish. It isn't that bad.... well actually....

Small Business Bully.

So I know I haven't posted anything in quite some time.... SORRY. As a homeschooler I am a very busy kid/teen/sort-of-adult. You probably read that last line and thought it was a joke but guess what?? It was not! My mom owns a boutique called Paisley Polkadot. We are a small business and we sell women's clothing (obviously). It is one of the cutest shops ever-and I am not just saying that because my mom owns it- and me being her child, helps run the shop. It is pretty awesome most days because people will come in and say "What an awesome store you have here!" That makes me feel pretty amazing! My parents work hard to please the locals so we can sell our product and help make people happy and give them a pleasant shopping experience. I try to as well by being extremely kind and considerate to customers when I work. All in all it should be a pretty awesome time because, as I have previously stated, it is a COOL store.

That being said it really bothers me when people come in and scrunch up their face and give me and my mom and the other employees weird looks, like our store just isn't cool enough for them. I'm sorry, we aren't Walmart! We can't sell a pair of pants for $5 because 1) We wouldn't make money off of them and 2) They are not the same slacks you would find at a supermarket. It is sad to see people who bully small businesses. It is a tough world out there and I am proud to say that my parents own 3 small businesses that they run by themselves. It is an awesome achievement, especially in this economy.

Recently a new customer... Sally came into the store on the same day as our Grand Opening/Open house. For this event we were offering a discount to our returning customers who had been customers at our old location. Well apparently "Sally" heard about this event from one of her friends and got upset about it because she had purchased something early in the day. When she called the store (at the beginning of our very busy event) I answered the phone. She harshly asked for my name and then explained why she was "disappointing" in our store. Quietly I explained that our Open House was an invitation-only event for returning customers only and we had not given the discount to any person who did not have an invitation in hand at check out. She rudely dismissed herself and basically left me furious. Yet another case of small business bullying. If "Sally" walked into Old Navy the day before a sale I am almost positive she would not have called after purchasing items and said "I just found out about your sale, refund my money." They would not care at all. But my mother is the sweetest person alive and does not want anyone to be disappointed in our business so she called "sally" to apologize (who did not bother to pick up the phone OR call back) and sent her a gift certificate in the mail.

I guess my point is, PLEASE be kind to small businesses because I know how it feels when people are nice. Especially in a small town like I live in, small businesses and their owners need to be supported as much as possible. I know what it is like trying to run a business and let me tell you, it is NO walk in the park on a sunny day. Every once in a while just take a walk or a drive to a small business near you, even if it is just to say hello! Owners like to make friends more than big box store employees do! And I am not saying stop shopping at malls and Walmart, just try to support your local business too!

Stay happy :)
